"Captain, you wanted to see me," said Private Chen Hao, stepping out from the darkness. His eyes were guarded, reflecting the tension that filled the air.

"Yes," Liang replied, his voice a low rumble. "Chen, you've been on the team for nearly a year now. You've proven yourself in the field, but there's something I need to discuss with you."

Chen's heart raced. He had seen Liang's serious face before, and it never boded well for him. "What is it, Captain?"

"I've received word that your past is... complicated," Liang began. "It seems there are questions about your loyalty."

Chen's face paled. "Loyalty to the team, Captain. Always."

Liang nodded, but there was a hardness in his eyes that Chen had never seen before. "We can't afford any doubts, Chen. Not when we're facing the kind of threats we do."

Chapter 2: The Hidden Truth

Liang's expression softened, and for a moment, Chen thought he had seen a glimmer of understanding. "Why?"
